The University of Oregon upholds the constitutional right to free speech and peaceful dissent. We also uphold the right for all our students to receive their education, to participate in and attend classes, and to do so safely and without harassment. This site is intended to provide students, parents, faculty, staff, and the public with information and resources related to speech, safety, relevant policy and guidelines.

Information and Sources on Free Speech

Freedom of Expression is rooted in the First Amendment of the U.S. Bill of Rights
The Oregon Constitution protects the right to "speak, write, or print freely on any subject whatever." (Article I, Section 8)
The free and open exchange of ideas and information is fundamental to the educational mission of AAU universities.

Stay Informed

A cross-functional team works with organizers and participants of demonstrations and observes free speech activity for the safety of the UO community. As needs arise, information about a specific event or situation will be shared with the campus community.
